Weekenders
In keeping true to my resolution, I actually went brisk-walking round the block last Saturday and Sunday. After feeding the baby and getting Khairul to keep a watchful eye on him, I went walking with my sister and her toddler in the stroller. My sister the 'seasoned walker', has this great big strides even with a toddler in stroller to push. I was always 5 steps behind trying to keep pace with her. This showed how truly out of shape I was! Ouch! My legs still feels stiff from the sudden shock of exercising. I can't remember my last exercise session... seems like ages ago! Hah,.. probably 1 year ago!! I don't remember ever exercising during my pregnancy (gosh..very unhealthy!) and come to think of it, I think the last time I exercised was in the Parkcity Beverly Hotel's gym in Bintulu which was like in August 2002!!
I used to be health conscious... watched what I eat and had an exercise regime. When I was out of Uni and still jobless I remember jogging for at least half an hour in the morning and some aerobics / rope jumping / cycling in the evening. Wahh... that was the peak of my "pinkiest of health". And even when I started working I continued with my regime during weekends and jogged during weekdays evening whenever I came back early (tak percaya ka?..ask Nazry heh).
When I got pregnant, I just ate and ate and never exercised. Not to say I could continue the exercise regime I used to have, but at least some form of light exercise like walking was safe for pregnancy. And there's no such thing as eating for two! You have an additional 500 calories to consume when you're pregnant, and this must be used consuming healthy foodstuff like low-fat milk, low-fat yogurt, nuts, spinach, fruits, vegie, protein, oats, cereals, soya beans and not fattening food with little nutrional values like ice cream, chocolates, biscuits, Malay kueh, cakes, sweet buns. I did just the opposite and huwallaaa no wonder lah I gained so much excess weight. As my doctor put it "Ni bukan berat anak ni, ni berat mak".
So here I am.... nearly 3 months post pregnancy...
Its not too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle again - eat right and exercise. The emphasis is to feel healthier, but weight loss would be an added bonus. I know it will not be easy to maintain with all the temptations for unhealthy fattening sweet things and laziness to exercise but I shall try.
All this for a healthier, happier n confident me. Also for my boy.... as I read somewhere "what a baby needs is a healthy, happy, rested mother".

RESOLUTION
It has been quite sometime since I last wrote. I've been buried in work! There are four of us in my subteam supporting a submodule of this ERP software. One guy and three ladies. Before I came back from my maternity leave, one of them left to go for her maternity leave. And at anytime now the other lady collegue shall be leaving for her maternity leave as well! No wonder my male collegue has depleting hairline! Talk about productivity!!
So, between me and the male collegue, we've got to cover the lady that has gone for maternity and at the same time start the transition process of handover fm the other one. My manager once said that this was one of the challenges in managing the support team. Oh well... What to do? We are doing our part for the nation in doing what DrM envisioned a few years ago - to get a target of 70 million Malaysians in year can't remember but not far away lah.
I've made a new resolution ..ok I know its a bit too late for 2003 resolutions and a bit too early for 2004 but heck who needs new years to make a resolution right? I want to start exercising and read more books. Exercise for a healthy body and mind, and to be more energetic. And reading, of course to be more knowledgable and widen avenues so that I can engage in intellectual discourse. Anybody wanna be my sparing partner?

Have you tried this?
Interesting creative mathmagic!
1. Take the first 3 digits of your handphone number (the three subsequent
numbers after the service provider number (012, 019..)
2. Times 80
3. Plus 1
4. Times 250
5. Plus with the last four digits of your handphone number.
6. Again, plus the last four digits of your handphone number.
7. Minus 250
8. Divide with 2
Did you get back your handphone number? :-)

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME
This was forwarded to me by Ainol yesterday. It truly touched me. I'd like to share it with you... read on...... (thanks for your time Ain! muahhss*)
A young man learns what's most important in life
from the guy next door.
It had been some time since Jack had seen the old
man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in
the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country
in pursuit of his dreams.
There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little
time to think about the past and often no time to
spend with his wife and son. He was working on his
future, and nothing could stop him.
Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser
died last night. The funeral is Wednesday."
Memories flashed through his mind like an old
newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood
days.
"Jack, did you hear me?"
"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so
long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I
honestly
thought he died years ago," Jack said.
"Well, he didn't! forget you. Every time I saw him
he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about
the many days you spent over 'his side of the
fence' as he put it," Mom told him.
"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.
"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr.
Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's
influence in your life," she said.
"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said.
"I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for
him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he
thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the
funeral," Jack said.
As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught
the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's
funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children
of his own, and most of his relatives had passed
away.
The night before he had to return home, Jack and
his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one
more time.
Standing in the door! way, Jack paused for a
moment. It was like crossing over into another
dimension, a leap through space and time. The house
was exactly as he remembered. Every step held
memories. Every picture, every piece of
furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.
"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.
"The box is gone," he said.
"What box? " Mom asked.
"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on
top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand
times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was
'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.
It was gone. Everything about the house was
exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box.
He
figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.
"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him,"
Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early
flight home, Mom."
It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died.
Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a
note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a
package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post
office within the next three days," the note read.
Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The
small box was old and looked like it had been mailed
a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult
to read, but the return address caught his attention.
"Mr. Harold Belser" it read.
Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open
the package. There inside was the gold box and an
envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note
inside.
"Upon my death, please forward this box and its
contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued
most in my life." A small key was taped to the
letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes,
Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he
found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his
fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he
unlatched the cover.
Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack,
Thanks for your time! Harold Belser."
"The thing he valued most...was...my time."
Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called
his office and cleared his appointments for the
next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.
"I need some time to spend with my son," he said.
"Oh, by the way, Janet...thanks for your time!"
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we
take but by the moments that take our breath away,"
Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's
100% true.
1. At least 2 people in this world love you so
much they would die for you.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in
some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is
because they want to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone,
even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before
they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. If not for you, someone may not be living.
8. You are special and unique.
9. When you think you have no chance of getting
what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you
trust God to do what's best, and wait on His time,
probably, sooner or later, you will get it or
something better.
10. When you make the biggest mistake ever,
something good can still come from it.
11. When you think the world has turned its back
on you, take a look: you most likely turned your
back on the world.
12. Someone that you don't even know exists, loves
you.
13. Always remember the compliments you received.
Forget about the rude remarks.
14. Always tell someone how you feel about them;
you will feel much better when they know and you'll
both be happy.
15. If you have a great friend, take the time to
let them know that they are great.

You've got (NO) mail!
Its funny how you can't seem to write a mail to an old bestfriend. You just can't seem to find the words to write after "Hi there! How are you?". You rack your brains to find the right words to say. So when you finally gather the words to form a sentence you start typing then you pause in the middle of it and start thinking, "nah.. Its been too long. I don't 'know' him/her anymore. What would he/she think?". It's so much easier writing to a new friend, there are lots to be said and introduced. Then you start deleting what you've just typed. Then you type again, then you delete again, type, delete, type, delete ....
Until finally you just close the damn new memo and save it as draft and forget about it altogether! And that mail remains in your draft for ages. You totally forget about it until the next time you open your draft folder (which you very seldom do) and when you see that unsent mail you open it again. Then you try typing again... But of course you can't , you've got the writer's block. And so you procrastinate again in sending the mail. At this point, chances are that you'll never send that mail to your old friend! And the gap between you and your old friend grows wider as time passes by.
And you wonder, what ever happened to so and so? Oh, we just lost contact after sometime.... Oh, we've gone separate ways... Oh I just don't know.... We drifted apart...
How can somebody so close to you at one point in your life once upon a time be such a stranger to you? You know this someone used to share all your happiness, woes, secrets, dreams and aspirations at one point of time. She / he helped you to 'grow' in so many ways. Just imagine not knowing what to write to your current circle of friends 10 years from now when right now you just can't stop talking everytime you meet each other!
So, my friends if 10 years from now unluckily we do "loose" contact, and you receive an email from NaliaO, please do try to reply it. That mail would be my brave attempt that has gone thru so many editings and a lot of man hours just thinking what to write.. My attempt to get reconnected...

THE ISSUE OF TRUST
Last Wednesday I was given a high priority issue to solve. Asked around everywhere, looked into all the extended library, knowledge warehouse and notes, even sent an enquiry note to the developer. Had already figured out that the user's request was impossible even before the developer replied back and was already finding alternative solution to the request. After failed attempts in getting the user on the phone, I sent a mail to her telling that it could not be done and asked her for suggestions (just a formal way to open up a discussion although I already had a suggestion in mind). But the sad part was instead of disscussing with me, she went to ask a consultant here for suggestions, which later she forwarded to me, which was actually the suggestion I had in mind! Come on lah, give me a chance! Although I may be new at it, but rest assured, I would come up with the appropriate solution because I too have my personal goals in meeting the Service Level of Agreement (SLA - an agreement with your user with regards to your response time based on the priority & complexity of the issue).
Just have faith in me. Trust me. Thank you.

CHILDHOOD AMBITION
I was inspired to write this after reading Maria's article on wanting to be a newspaper seller when she was younger. I remember during primary school, at the end of each year, the teacher would call us one by one and ask what our ambition was. Of course the ambition changed from year to year.... from being a penyair (poet) to being a lawyer. But the ambition that has always been on my mind when I was little was to be a 'toll gate girl'! Well of course when I was younger there weren't as many tolls as there are today. Back then it was the Jalan Kuching toll...I remember being excited everytime we drove along Jalan Kuching and paid the 50 cents toll. What thrilled me was how well and fast the operator collected and counted the money received and how she never makes mistake when returning the change. Well of course it was easy giving back change as it was 50 cents back then as compared to the different toll rates we have for long distance highways now. What tempted me was also the fact that each toll unit was equipped with their air-cond. Imagine having the cool air cond breeze all to yourself (air-cond was a luxury to me back then when we didn't have any air-cond units in the house). Also, what I liked about the toll gate operators was how well they pass back the money without dropping any of it! Nowadays, I still like passing by the tools and observe them. What I like to observe is their service... service with a smile? or not... I remember this tired looking toll gate operator who still smiled when she was irritatingly di usik (gosh, can't figure the English word for di usik) by my cousin when he said "Banyak untung harini?"
Anyway, worth mentioning was this good drama on TV on the eve of Hari Raya 2 years ago about Toll Gate Girl which starred Amy Mastura and whats that guy's name that plays Joe in Kopitiam (cute guy by the way).
I wonder with the emergence of auto payment like Touch N Go and Smart Tag, will the toll gate girl / guys still be around in the future? Maybe I could try this out before they become extinct!
Question of the day: What's the English word for di usik / mengorat?

BACK IN OFFICE
HELLO WORLD! I'm back in the office. After the 2 month period stint as a "housewife" I'm back at level 60. Kissed my baby about 10 times I think before I left this morning. Miss him! Anyway, the babysitter is still on leave till tomorrow so today Khairul is staying home to take care of baby Idlan. Change of roles for a day... see how it feel like being the "house-husband"! :-)
Nothing much accomplished productively wrt work. Its already 1030am and I'm still clearing up the mailbox, meridian messages and administrative matters like leave application. Still in the mood of chit-chatting & catching up via phone, mail and of course sametime hehe... I do have work assigned to me...but nanti lah... kasik chance laa.. hehe....

UPDATES

It has been a while since I last updated That's Life. Its not like my life has changed 360 since the end of my confinement period. Its just that the computer is now "not in front of my eyes" (literally translated from 'takde di depan mata'). I have lost the privelege to surf in my very own room because the laptop loan has expired since I can now very well climb the 20-steps leading to the computer room.
So what's new?
Idlan is getting heavier! Last checked when he was a month old... he was 4 kgs - 1.3 kg heavier than when he was born. Wonder how much he weighs now? And he can really kick!! Lucky we bought him the "kick" barn to play with.
Oh... my son can now respond and smile when you talk to him or when you make funny faces (mengagah). So cute and comel !! heee... of course I'm biased, he's my son!. He seems to respond well to his RBW (Red Black White) toys. FYI, RBW are high contrast colors which a newborn can perceive better than any other color (don't ask me why Barney is purple!). The RBW stimulates baby's brain activity and increase his potential for learning.
Hmmm.... the joys of motherhood - seeing your child's development. These are the things I shall miss when I start working on Monday.*dread*
I will not be the first one to see his latest "milestones"..... the caregiver would. I envy her!
As for me, I still can't fit into many of my prepregnancy clothes! So I went to buy a few tops and bottoms to mix and match with what's left of my wardrobe. *Sigh*
Oh did I tell you that I've started driving agan? I was actually looking left-right 5 times at a junction before moving! The car behind me had impatiently cut me from the side. Cheh... bagi chance aa...!
So that's it from me. I'll be in office starting Monday so probably that's life can be updated daily (??!). See first...
Till then, I shall enjoy what's left of this leave to dote on my dear boy.
Adios!
